Navigating CBAM: CBAM compliance for DRShip Europe
CBAM Compliance for DRShip Europe
DRShip is an international manufacturer of fireproof marine interior materials. With its production facility in Jiangsu, China, the company supplies certified, high‑quality solutions to shipyards and offshore projects worldwide. DRShip Europe was founded to serve the European market, operating from the Netherlands in close proximity to Europe’s largest port. DRShip specialises in delivering durable, fire‑resistant marine materials that combine technical performance with design flexibility.
Challenge
With CBAM requirements coming into force, DRShip Europe was required to disclose the carbon emissions embedded in its imports. The company needed a clear, practical framework for calculating and reporting embedded greenhouse gas emissions to ensure timely compliance and regulatory certainty.
CBAM Compliance for DRShip Europe
DRShip engaged with their suppliers to collect relevant information about the embedded greenhouse gas emissions in their imports.
Here's how we did it:
Step 1: Supply Chain Mapping
The first step in the CBAM project was to map DRShip Europe’s supply chains in detail and assess the most practical and reliable approach for calculating embedded greenhouse gas emissions. This involved gaining a clear understanding of product flows, countries of origin, and material characteristics, while balancing regulatory accuracy with operational feasibility.
Step 2: Data Collection and Verification
Together with DRShip we collected product data related to its origins and net-mass. To ensure a timely and efficient start, the project relied on the European Commission’s default CBAM emission values. This approach reduced dependency on supplier‑specific data, simplified data collection, and enabled DRShip to meet reporting requirements independently while maintaining full regulatory alignment.
Step 3: Quarterly Reporting
Using the calculated embedded emissions, a practical reporting framework was established for DRShip Europe. This allows the company to accurately report embedded emissions, purchase the required CBAM certificates, and surrender them in a timely manner, ensuring full compliance with CBAM obligations.
Results
As a result of the project, DRShip Europe established a clear and reliable foundation for CBAM compliance. The company gained full insight into the carbon emissions embedded in its imported products and now has a practical reporting framework in place that meets regulatory requirements. By enabling timely reporting and the accurate purchase and surrender of CBAM certificates, the project provides DRShip with regulatory certainty, operational efficiency, and the confidence to stay ahead of future CBAM developments.
